Elder Jeffery R. Holland To Be Buried In St. George

President Jeffrey R. Holland, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at the age of 85. He passed away in Salt Lake City due to complications associated with kidney disease after a period of declining health, surrounded by family. His death marked the end of decades of dedicated service to the Church and sparked tributes from leaders and members around the world.

Throughout his life, Jeffrey Roy Holland was a respected educator, religious leader, and communicator. Born on Dec. 3, 1940, in St. George, Utah, he earned degrees from Brigham Young University and Yale University, served as president of BYU from 1980 to 1989, and was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1994. Known for his powerful sermons, deep faith, and compassionate outreach, Holland influenced generations of Latter-day Saints with his teachings and writings. He was also a devoted husband and father, marrying Patricia Terry in 1963 and raising three children. Sister Holland preceded him in death in 2023. 

Funeral services for President Holland were held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, where friends, family, and Church members gathered to honor his life and legacy. He will be buried in a private service on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in his hometown of St. George, Utah, in the city cemetery next to his wife, Patricia, fulfilling his final wishes and closing the chapter of a life of service.
